Bible Gurls Huddle

What started out as an accountability group text has turned into a community of sisterhood for ladies (young and old) across the nation with one common goal - to read and study the word of God. Much like our walk with God, each person studies at their own pace then we huddle together virtually.

Bible of the Quarter

Everyone needs a good study bible. This 3rd quarter we're recommending The Filament Enabled Bible. It comes in the New Living Translation (NLT) version and King James (KJV) version. I chose the NLT.

Why is BGH recommending this bible:

  • the sub-titles are more frequent to indicate a new focus
  • the 'Translation Notes' give Hebrew or Greek insights
  • it's written in an easy to read language
  • the large print is easy on the eyes

What I love the most about this bible is there are no 'study notes' in the bible -- IT COMES WITH A FREE APP that will take your personal study time to a whole new level!!

When you open the app, scan the icon on the top of the page to be directed to STUDY, REFLECT or SEE. Depending on which you choose, you'll quickly find an overview of the whole book, a plethora of 'footnotes', profiles on all the characters named in that section, details on the themes of the text, additional research about the verses you are reading, maps, videos, worship videos - you name it! If you're using the app you can also follow personal reading plans. And last but not least, you can listen to the text. This bible is a Bible Gurls dream!! Check out the promo video from the maker.

So if you're in the market for a new bible, consider the NLT Filament Enabled Bible. Normal price of $23.00 - $49.99, Amazon had a sale price for $15.58 at the time of this post.

FINDING YOURSELF IN THE WORD

Since day one of BGH, we preach one consistent message “don’t just read the word, find yourself in the word”. Consider these tips to help you on this quest:

Get a Study Bible

Reading the bible and studying the word are two different things. You start by reading and prayerfully grow to studying. Having a good study bible affords you added helps like commentary notes, charts, maps. and profiles to name a few. Check out our Bible of the Month section for a suggestion.

Have a Designated Time/Space for Study

If you plan for it you're more likely to do it. On your quest to be closer to God you have to spend some time with Him. Doesn't matter if you choose early morning, mid-day or late nights - it's YOUR TIME WITH GOD!

Keep Notes

Get a notebook or journal to capture your thoughts on what you read.

Read and Re-read

Repetition is a key way to embed the word in you and get what God has for you. The first time you read it, you're really just pronouncing the words. Read it the second time and you get a glimpse of what it means to you. Read it again and put emphasis on different words to see if there's another meaning. Re-read until God reveals something to you for YOU.

Read Different Versions

Most people were brought up on the King James Version (KJV) and sold to us as the original version. There are multiple versions of the bible available for you to choose from. We suggest you have access to switch between different versions as you're studying. Simply reading it in another version could give you another revelation.

Be Honest With Yourself

To find yourself in the word you have to be honest with yourself. Where are you in life right now? What have your endured? Where is God trying to take you? All these things should be in the back of your mind and in your heart as you're studying.

Happy Reading...
